Our Group Homes, or supervised group living, provide a safe environment for up to 4 residents in a group living situation.  Staff(s) are provided 24 hours a day to assist and train each participant in developing daily living skills and to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the participants.

Each Group Home participant develops an annualized Individualized Support Plan (ISP) with his/her support team.  Support teams are typically comprised of the participant, family members, and staff from a variety of disciplines who provide services.  The Individualized Support Plan includes the participant’s goals, likes, interests, abilities, and supports needed.  Group Home programming is enacted by home & community program managers and direct support professionals.

Direct support professionals (DSP) receive initial and ongoing training including:

• Medication Administration,
• First Aid | CPR,
• Objectives and Philosophy
• Practice of confidentiality
• Human rights personnel policies
• Emergency preparedness
• Emergency preparedness
• Person centeredness
• Infectious control
• Specific policies & procedures
• Serious incident
• Prevention of Abuse and Neglect,
• Positive Behavior Supports,
• Aggression Management,
• Individualized participant training,
• 24 hours of job shadowing with a previously trained staff member,
• And quarterly Behavior Management training for staff who provide support to participants receiving Behavior Support Services.

Each of Providence Health Care’s two group homes is certified annually by the Virginia State Department of Health.
